Just a little ‘fact check’ before we get into why Kroger’s.
On July 29 President Barack Obama met with employees of a Kroger grocery store in Bristol, Va., where his first point wasn’t healthcare. It was the Newsweek magazine cover claiming that “The Recession Is Over”. Crap! We can’t have people believing this – we still have LOTS of money we need to spend on this crisis!!
At 3:15 Obama proudly states:
“When I took office we were losing jobs at nearly double the rate that we are losing now.”
Huh? When were we losing over a million jobs a week, did I miss a news day?
According the United States Department of Labor the week of July 25th we had 584,000 in new unemployment claims and 6,197,000 in continued claims. The week of the inauguration we had 620,143 new unemployment claims and 5,806,901 in continued claims. Double? There’s some fuzzy math going on here………..Why does no one call him on items like this? He continually inflates number to suit his needs at the moment and while the audience may not know that they were just lied to – they will repeat the lie. Where’s the media?
O.k., now why Kroger’s……………
Am I the only one that thought it was a strange place to hold a town hall meeting? It reminded me of Debbie Gibson singing in the malls. Don’t ask why, it was just the first thing that popped in my head.
What Obama doesn’t mention anywhere in this speech is the fact that Kroger’s is a union (UFCW) employer and their biggest competitor? Walmart, not that I’m naming any names but UFCW is also the union that created Wake Up Walmart in an effort to unionize Wal-Mart. At any cost.
So, it begs the question. Why would Obama waste precious time speaking to a group that already has gold plated health insurance? A group whose benefits will most likely be excluded from the impact of the healthcare reform bill?
Why are the unions spending millions of dollars pushing the healthcare reform? It’s simple really, if their benefits are excluded (and they will be) and we are all left with the government run healthcare this will give the unions an opportunity to boost their membership – and power.
You see Obama believes in unions because in his opinion the unions share his core philosophy – “spread the wealth”.
Obama was simply keeping a promise to his contributors by stopping by Kroger’s for a chat – his union contributors. During the 2008 election cycle UFCW made over $2.1 Million dollars in campaign contributions. Of which $2,117,878 went to the Democratic Party and $6,000 went to the Republican Party.
Now, that’s just the money that went directly to the Democratic Party. There’s also the over $1.1 Million dollars that was given by the UFCW to Obama’s “grassroots” organizations during 2008:
|ACORN COMMUNITY LABOR ORGANIZING||$1,060,725|
|THE ACORN INSTITUTE||$10,000|
|WORKING FAMILIES PARTY||$9,034|
Many of us are not familiar with the UFCW. The UFCW was an AFL-CIO affiliated union until 2005. In 2005 AFCW joined six other unions—the Teamsters , SEIU , UNITE-HERE , Laborers , United Farm Workers and Carpenters —in creating a new labor federation, the Change to Win Federation.
Change to Win Federation is an interesting group that has managed to funnel more than $20 Million dollars to the Democratic party during the 2008 campaign according to The Atlantic.
So, what do you think? Was Kroger’s an accident?
Hot Air has this video posted today. Note the sections of truth as it relates to ‘single-payer insurance’ are when he’s speaking to the unions. Is he lying when he’s talking to the unions or to us? Take notice – he’s never apologized for anything a union has done.
