Honesty Is Not Going To Get You The House – ACORN

One thing that I’ve noticed people have not mentioned about the latest ACORN video in Brooklyn, NY. The office located at 2-4 Nevins Street is the main ACORN office of Brooklyn and the office of the CEO and Chief Organizer, Bertha Lewis.

MHANY office address - ACORNThese people were right under the nose of Bertha Lewis – how did she not know?

Just in case you haven’t seen the videos – for your viewing pleasure.

Milagros Rivera has been involved with ACORN since at least December 12, 2007 when she testified at the New York City Council on behalf of ACORN regarding Section 8 housing.

Milagros Rivera lives at 1889 Sedgwick Avenue, #6H, Bronx, NY, 10453. It is a former Mitchell Lama building owned by landlord Larry Gluck. Her landlord refused to accept her Section 8 voucher. Her rent is over 90% of her income. She can only pay it by borrowing money from friends and family. If this bill passes, her landlord will have to accept her Section 8 voucher and her rent will be approximately $200 a month.

It appears that ACORN utilizes its own employees to advocate for Section 8 housing without mentioning that the person speaking is an ACORN employee. More interesting, ACORN pays its employees so little they qualify for Section 8 housing. Maybe this is part of their benefits package.

Also, Milagros Rivera is the contact for registration for ACORN “Home-Buying Opportunities Seminars” since at least November 14, 2008.

Home-Buying Opportunities Seminars for members in all boroughs The UFT, in partnership with the community group ACORN, is sponsoring a program to offer affordable housing opportunities in the city to UFT members, whether they are looking to rent an apartment or buy a house, co-op or condo. This Home-Buying Opportunities Seminar introduces people to the spectrum of offerings and covers all aspects of how to buy a home and get a mortgage. After attending the two-hour information session, each member is assigned a loan counselor who gives one-on-one support. Both the seminars and the counseling sessions are free and open to all UFT members. Preregistration is required. to register, call Milagros Rivera at 718-246-8080 ext. 207. All seminars are from 6 to 8 p.m. at the borough offices. The dates are: Manhattan, Dec. 2; Queens, Dec. 4; Staten Island and the Bronx, Dec. 17; and Brooklyn, Dec. 18.

I wonder how many brothels she was able to “assist” during these training sessions.

Volda V. Albert also provides housing counseling for prospective home-buyers.

What is UFT? The United Federation of Teachers. You may have seen the recent Washington Examiner article:
Teachers unions have contributed over $1.3 million to ACORN and its affiliates, since 2005, according to U.S. Labor Department financial disclosure forms.
So, the Teachers unions contribute millions of dollars to ACORN and in return ACORN provides “FREE” counseling for their members?
Tara Benigno is the third person in the video and has been employed by ACORN and/or MHANY (Mutual Housing Association of New York) as a Housing Developer and Loan Counselor since at least October 2002. Tara is also listed as the RFP (request for proposal) contact for New York state development projects.
Exit questions. These 3 employees are long term, highly visible and share office space with Bertha Lewis – how are they going to explain this one?
