Mike Monsoor – An American Hero

Mike Monsoor, Navy Petty Officer Second Class, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Second Class

April 5th, 1981 ~ September 29th, 2006

Mike Monsoor

Mike Monsoor was awarded “The Congressional Medal Of Honor” last week, for giving his life In Iraq as he jumped on  and covered with his body a live hand grenade that was accidentally dropped by a Navy Seal saving the lives of a large group of Navy Seals that was passing by!

During Mike Monsoor’s funeral, at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery  in San Diego , California;

The six pallbearers removed the rosewood casket from the hearse and lined up on each side of Mike Monsoor’s casket. A column of people including his family members, friends, fellow sailors, and well-wishers gathered. The column of people continued from the hearse all the way to the grave site.

What the group didn’t know at the time was, every Navy Seal (45 To Be Exact) that Mike Monsoor saved that day was scattered through-out the column!  Every time the rosewood casket passed a Navy Seal, he would remove his gold Trident Pin from his uniform and slap it down hard, causing the Gold Trident Pin to embed Itself into the top of the wooden casket! Then the Navy Seal would step back from the column and salute!

It was said that you could hear each of the 45 slaps from across the cemetery! By the time the rosewood casket reached the grave site, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from the 45 Trident Pins that lined the top!

Please keep Mike’s family in your thoughts and prayers today……………………….

Hat tip reader Bob – thank you.

You Can’t Handle The Truth Obama

Politico is reporting:

According to sources close to the administration, Gen McChrystal shocked and angered presidential advisers with the bluntness of a speech given in London last week.

The next day he was summoned to an awkward 25-minute face-to-face meeting on board Air Force One on the tarmac in Copenhagen, where the president had arrived to tout Chicago’s unsuccessful Olympic bid.

An adviser to the administration said: “People aren’t sure whether McChrystal is being naïve or an upstart. To my mind he doesn’t seem ready for this Washington hard-ball and is just speaking his mind too plainly.”

Speaking his mind too plainly…………….code for – how dare he tell the truth!

This administration really has no clue about military code or morals. When they put General McChrystal in charge of the troops in his mind they put the lives of those troops in his hands. No military commander worth his salt would sit by quietly – doing the political thing – while his soldiers die.

Rather than blame General McChrystal, maybe Obama should be asking where his administration broke down in communicating the needs of our troops. Why was this ignored until the media reported?

Thank you General McChrystal for standing up for our troops.

VA – Government Efficiency

Via KPBS:

Hundreds of veterans lined up outside the regional office of the Veterans Administration in San Diego today. They were there to pick up an advance on their GI Bill checks.

The VA is behind on processing about 30,000 applications for benefits under the new GI Bill. As a stop gap measure, the agency offered to issue emergency checks of up to $3,000 to vets who have already started college and need the money to cover rent and food.

Because it’s so much more efficient to issue 2 checks instead of just writing the checks they’re waiting for???

And these goobers acting like they’re delivering the Publishers Clearing House prizes – standing there with big smiles while our Veterans stand in line like they’re waiting for the soup kitchen…………….

Obama – Illegal Aliens, Yes – WWII Patriots, No

Compassion and doing the right thing only apply to this Administration when it fits their ‘agenda’.

Via McClatchy:

In a strongly worded message to Congress outlining its priorities for a military spending bill, the Obama administration today said it disapproved of including money for pensions for 26 elderly members of the World War II-era Alaska Territorial Guard.

The Guardsmen are among those assigned to protect Alaska from the Japanese during World War II.

The Army decided this year to no longer count service in the Guard in calculating the military’s 20-year minimum for retirement pay, although it still counts for military benefits. As a result, their pensions were decreased in January.

An estimated 300 members are still living from the original 6,600-member unit formed in 1942 to protect Alaska, then a territory, from attack. The 26 men have enough other military service to reach the 20-year minimum for retirement pay but would lose it if the Territorial Guard service doesn’t count.

A Senate military spending bill up for a vote in the Senate allows the former Guard members count their service as part of active military duty, and it reinstates the payments.

State lawmakers passed a bill earlier this year to fill the pay gap until Congress made a permanent fix, but the White House said Friday it didn’t think it was “appropriate to establish a precedent of treating service performed by a state employee as active duty for purposes of the computation of retired pay.”

Red State has a very detailed breakdown of this story and the history of these heroes.

Most of these men are in their 80’s and this is their only income – income they earned. We are talking about $557 per month for each of these men, less than $175,000 a year. Which I’m sure is less than Obama will spend on his self-serving trip to Denmark.

We spend billions of dollars annually on illegal aliens in this Country and we cannot afford this? Something is very wrong with the priorities of this Administration.

This is sickening.

Pentagon Is Profiling Reporters

Via Stars and Stripes:

Contrary to the insistence of Pentagon officials this week that they are not rating the work of reporters covering U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Stars and Stripes has obtained documents that prove that reporters’ coverage is being graded as “positive,” “neutral” or “negative.”

This is disturbing on so many levels. How can we trust the information that we are receiving regarding our soldiers. This is not a statement as to the truthfulness of the reporters, as the article goes on to state:

One reporter on the staff of one of America’s pre-eminent newspapers is rated in a Pentagon report as “neutral to positive” in his coverage of the U.S. military. Any negative stories he writes “could possibly be neutralized” by feeding him mitigating quotes from military officials.

Another reporter, from a TV station, provides coverage from a “subjective angle,” according to his Pentagon profile. Steering him toward covering “the positive work of a successful operation” could “result in favorable coverage.”

They can neutralize coverage or steer reporters?

Of course both the Defense Department and The Rendon Group are denying that this is profiling. However, the contract clearly states that the purpose is “News Monitoring and Media Analysis“. What else could this information be utilized to accomplish?

They didn’t waste any time on this contract, it was signed on January 21, 2009 for an amount of $1.5 million. Our tax dollars at work – protecting the Administration from bad press.

This quote from a servicemember says it all:

“It’s troubling that the military is contracting a private PR firm, paid with U.S. taxpayer dollars, to profile individual reporters,” said one servicemember who declined to be identified for fear of official retribution. “It shows utter contempt for the Constitution, which we in the service pledge our lives to defend.”
